WEYA recognizes "outstanding achievements" by women in business. The Women Entrepreneur of the Year Awards is a celebration of the battles fought and won by Manitoba's women entrepreneurs. The awards, presented by the Women Business Owners of Manitoba, recognize the accomplishments and achievements of Manitoba women who exemplify the spirit of survival in today's increasingly competitive business landscape.
The annual gala event, being held this year on May 22 at the Winnipeg Convention Centre, puts the spotlight on 29 finalists who serve as an inspiration to other women in their communities and beyond to take the necessary risks required to realize their dreams and visions.
In total, 100 women were nominated for the Women Entrepreneur of the Year award by their peers, families and mentors in seven categories: Emerging Business; Building Business; Excellence in Service; International Trade; Home Enterprise; Contribution to Community; and Lifetime Achievement.
Dawna Atamanchuk, chairperson of this year's awards, said the committee was inspired by both the number of nominations and the quality of the nominees.
"There are so many industrious and resourceful female business owners in this province," Atamanchuk said. "Deciding on the winners required a lot of dialogue and thoughtfulness by the judging committee."
All 29 finalists have been notified about the awards night but, in the spirit of true celebration, the seven winners, plus one winner in the Overall Excellence category, will not be revealed until the gala event.
Tickets for the Woman Entrepreneur of the Year awards dinner are $90 and can be purchased by calling 832.1512. For more information about the WEYA and who the finalists are, or for information about the Women Business Owners of Manitoba, visit wbom.ca. |
